A portrait of Joanna

About me

I like making words work and I’ve been doing so in all sorts of ways for over 10 years. My flexible writing style and excellent research skills enable me to work successfully with a wide range of clients. I specialise in writing and editing print and online copy for the public sector, businesses with an interest in corporate social responsibility, arts organisations and charities. I am also currently working on my first novel.

Just spent a fascinating weekend at The Falmouth Convention, an international meeting of artists, curators and writers to explore the significance of time and place in relation to contemporary art and exhibition making. As writer and editor for the Convention I'll now be writing up my own experience and collating a record of others' thoughts.

As part of the BOSarts This Weekend? project, I spent yesterday experiencing Godrevy headland on the north Cornwall coast in new ways. Six temporary, site-specific art works are taking place across Cornwall on specified weekends in August and September. Yesterday was the turn of Janet McEwan, whose photographic installation and group drawing performance encouraged explorations of ownership, perspective and place.

The weekend at Port Eliot Literary Festival was a great opportunity to hear writers and artists from all fields doing what they do best. I particularly enjoyed Ross Sutherland and Found in Translation, who combined performance poetry, stand up comedy and extremely witty wordplay in a hilarious take on modern life. It was also great to read an extract from Caleb alongside my coursemates in the profwriting tent. Looking forward to next year!

I will be reading an extract from Caleb, my novel in progress, at the Port Eliot Literary Festival, 24-26 July. I will be appearing in the Telltales tent alongside a great line up of writers, singers and all manner of wordsmiths from across the South West. If you're heading to the festival, look out for the Telltales tent on the lawn near the Orangery and the distinctive apostrophe signs around the site.
